In the Unified Judicial System of Pennsylvania, court records are typically maintained by Prothonotaries for appellate courts and Prothonotaries and Clerks of Courts of the Courts of Common Pleas for the trial courts. Generally, a Clerk of Court is responsible for maintaining criminal records while a Prothonotary maintains civil records.
